Flower Gardening

Flower gardening is becoming increasingly popular. Flowers brighten up people’s lives, they smell good, and growing flowers is a fun hobby. You can grow flowers purely as a hobby or, if you are very proficient, you can turn it into a business.

There are some decisions that must be taken even before you can start flower gardening. You should decide whether you want to grow annuals and replant each year, or perennials that survive the winter and return in the summer. When purchasing, pay attention to what kind of flowers are effective in your climate.

When you are flower gardening, you should decide which type of flowers you want to look before beginning planting. For example, the mixing of different heights, colours and varieties together in a "cottage garden style" your garden will look a very charming if you get it right. If you plant short flowers at the front of your borders, and work up to the tallest flowers in the back you can achieve a nice effect.

A cheap way of getting started is to use seeds for flower gardening. Alternatively you can buy from a nursery. Whichever you choose you must prepare your garden in advance. With seed make sure you have prepared a seed bed. If you are buying plants it makes sense to lay the flowers in the bed to make sure you like the arrangement and that they will be evenly distributed.

One of the easiest techniques in flower gardening when using seeds is to just sprinkle them around in the flower beds. This can create an interesting, random effect. For planting individual plants just dig a hole larger than the root ball, remove from the container, and place the flower in the hole. Cover it with some topsoil and press down well, then water.

Although they will grow well on their own, you may wish to add some fertilizer to your flower plants in early spring to give them a good start. Cut back any blooms once they begin to fade and keep the flowers well watered to maintain a nice garden landscape.

Flower gardening is relatively simple. First decide what to plant, then plant them, and finally water and feed them well!
